Small Acts of Friendship News

Delighted that Small Acts of Friendship is extending into the Elderly Care wards at Princess Royal Hospital and Newhaven Rehabilitation Centre.  The picture is from a patient who wrote to say how much he appreciated the volunteers he met and services he benefitted from.

Friends’ Trustee and Elderly Care Consultant Muna Al-Jawad writes:

The UHS (East) Older People’s Medicine Team are delighted to announce we have appointed 3 new consultants who will be starting in April 2023. Helen Quinn has been involved with Small Acts of Friendship (SAF) since its inception on the Older People’s Wards and features in our video about the project https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeeu3fvoBD4

As well as working in acute care for older people at RSCH, she also has a special interest in Parkinson’s disease. Genevieve Beckett will be working at the Princess Royal Hospital. She has a special interest in acute care for older people living with frailty. She will be key to helping with the roll out of the SAF programme to the older people’s wards there.

Rebecca Winter will be taking a senior lecturer role at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and will be an honorary consultant at RSCH. Rebecca’s MD was about frailty in older people and how teach about frailty to medical students and other healthcare professionals. She is looking forward to strengthening links between the medical school and SAF.
