Donations from the Duke of Richmond Masonic Lodge and the Sussex Masonic Charitable Foundation
The Duke of Richmond Masonic Lodge, based in Queens Road, Brighton has donated £1,000 in support of the Friends’ Small Acts of Friendship initiative. Lodge members are keen to support local initiatives and felt Small Acts provided real benefit for those receiving in-patient treatment in the elderly care wards at Royal Sussex County Hospital. The donation will support activities such as arts and craft, music therapy and reminiscence sessions. Small Acts also provides hairdressing and barbering, hand massage and other non-clinical treatments. Patients say the treatments are relaxing, lift their spirits and help them feel better in themselves, and staff have said it helps them to provide the best care. Small Acts of Friendship was recognised as a contributing to the excellent rating for elderly care received by the Hospital in the recent CQC report.
Alistair Lang from the Lodge came to present the cheque in person to Friends Vice-Chair Chris Rendel outside the Friends Office.

Sussex Masonic Charitable Foundation wanted to recognise the incredible work of the local NHS over recent months and made a £5,000 donation to the Friends for the purpose of ‘bedding and food’ for NHS staff.
There are 105 units of accommodation across BSUH which are used by Junior Doctors and other clinical staff, sometimes just for a few nights and sometimes for longer, when they are sent to Brighton & Hove on a training rotation.
Working with BSUH Accommodation Manager Angela Beale the Friends have used the donation to provide new mattress enhancers in all rooms. Angela commented ‘all healthcare professionals will benefit from a more comfortable experience when in trust accommodation. Thank you so much to everyone involved for this generous donation’.
